At the Movies: Hearthrobs

Okay, Okay. I am going to admit up front that I was one of those fanatical fans. The screaming Mimi of the Teen Beat and Tiger Beat variety. I loved me some pull out posters and in turn - loved me some heartthrob material.

So,the movies are what moved me. I could only see the men (boys, really) that I loved on the big screen - walking and talking. Of course, they were talking to me. Looking straight at me and talking --- to ---- me. Ha. How silly was that.

My tops? Had the be the "Two Coreys", Haim and Feldman, although Corey Feldman was more my type (as if I had a type at 12!) the bad boy, cigarette smoking, Drew Barrymore hugging type. LOVED him. Favorite roles? The classics - The Goonies, Lucas, Stand by Me (made me cry), and The Lost Boys. Dream a Little Dream was fantastic for one important thing - he danced. I loved to watch him dance.

The Two Coreys, closely followed by River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Sean Astin, Jeremy Miller, Jonathan Brandis, Fred Savage, Chad Allen, Niel Patrick Harris, Baltazar Getty, Ralph Macchio - I could go on forever. Their pictures hung with love and affection in my room for years. Waiting with bated breath for a new picture or movie to be released. Sadly, some of those I pined for are no longer with us - frozen forever in time, in their youth. Oh, how I cried for them.

Of course, there were the ones deemed dangerous and untouchable. Johnny Depp, Keifer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Lou Diamond Phillips. Those that were at least 10 years older than me - their age, defiance, and bad ass attitude on and off the screen that unlocked a piece of me I was just getting to know. My, my how well they have aged. They all still top my "Men to Do" list.

It is funny how some things never change.
